"I have been a resident of Lake County ever since I was one year old. I grew up in Round Lake where I attended school up until high school. In high school, I took honors and Advanced Placement courses. I was also involved in clubs and activities such as Multi-Cultural Club, National Honor Society, Student Council, Educational Talent Search as well as volunteering in the school and community. Most importantly, I have one brother and one sister and as a first generation student, they motivate me to be a role model for them. The CLULC scholarship means so much to me words cannot describe how grateful I am with the Coalicion Latinos Unidos of Lake County organization. This scholarship will not only alleviate some of the financial burden, but also will serve as motivation to continue with my studies because I know there are people that willing to support me in my endeavors. It is an honor to be one the 2014 recipients and I thankful for organizations such as CLULC, which provide support and assistance to deserving students. Muchas gracias. "

"I would like to take the opportunity to sincerely thank CLULC for their support. As a student who has applied to various scholarships and is concerned about my financial situation, I feel honored to have been recognized by CLULC. This scholarship, has helped opened the doors for me to major in biology and enter the pre-med program at Lawrence University. I hope to one day start my own scholarship and help students with resource in my home community when I graduate and start my profession. I understand that I wouldn't have made it this far if it wasn't for the support system around me, and would like to express that CLULC has become part of that system as well. This blessing has still awed me, and I cannot find the words to express how eternally grateful I am. I wish best of luck to CLULC and hope to one day be able to help such a wonderful organization. "

"Evelyn wants to thank CLULC for being part of her legacy. She has always been aware of the fact that she can’t do anything solely with her own strength and capacity. She has come to understand that without her support system, she would be no one. She would like to thank God and her family for being part of this support system, and today she would also like to thank CLULC for being that new brick that has just been added to her support. She thanks CLULC, for believing in her; she has no doubt that together we’ll definitely make a great difference in this community!"

"Being awarded the CLULC Scholarship has meant more than the usual for Carlos. Being acknowledged for all of the hard work he put forth into his studies is nice and all, but the fact that there are those who wish to see him succeed by awarding him money is incredible. It does give him the hope he needs to pursue his degree and move on to bigger and better things. The scholarship also opened his eyes to a whole world of possibilities in terms of the opportunities that are out there. If he is able to achieve the task of earning a scholarship, then he is able to earn many more. "

"As a proud resident of Lake County, Mario has noticed an accelerated upsurge of professional Latinos in the community. He can attribute the prosperity to superb organizations, such as CLULC, who support Latino youth in multiple aspects and believe that education is key to success. He involved himself in multiple clubs and organizations, such as National Honors Society and French club, as well as delved into the AP program while in high school. Then, he developed a yearning to aid his community and volunteered at food pantries and events at his high school. His passion for learning, chiefly Literature, History, and French, as well as his love of community service, will aid him in receiving a degree in Finance and a minor in French literature and culture in the future to come. Meanwhile, as an appreciative and honored recipient of the CLULC scholarship, he will continue to help his community, like CLULC has generously done for him. Summarily, he graciously thanks CLULC not solely for helping him, but for assisting the entire Lake County community as a whole. "
