The Beacon Place Mission, Programs and Services

Barbara LaFasto will share the mission of The Beacon Place and present information on its core programs located at its Community Center in Southeast Waukegan. The Beacon Place has just celebrated its five (5) year anniversary and Barbara LaFasto will share some of the results of its Education and Enrichment Programs. Approximately 80% of participants are Latino and 20% are African American. The Beascon Place goal is to continue to provide math, reading, writing remediation and STEAM programming that fills the gap that each student is missing in school. The staff work with students to ensure they make progress towards being on‐target for grade level work in their core academic areas of reading and math. The Beacon Place also tries to expose these students to enrichment programming that will expand their horizons and allow them to see a brighter tomorrow, where they can be successful and reach their fullest potential.
